Nanaimo car crash kills woman, 42, injures pregnant driver

A two-vehicle collision this morning at 7 a.m. on the Trans-Canada Highway near Nanaimo claimed the life of a 42-year-old Nanaimo woman and injured another woman who is 37 weeks pregnant.

A two-vehicle collision this morning at 7 a.m. on the Trans-Canada Highway near Nanaimo claimed the life of a 42-year-old Nanaimo woman and injured another woman who is 37 weeks pregnant.

Nanaimo RCMP were told by witnesses that the woman who died was heading north when she collided with a station wagon making a legal left turn onto Cedar Road. The pregnant woman, 24, was driving the station wagon and her 38-year-old husband was a passenger.

The injuries to the pregnant woman and her unborn child are not believed to be life-threatening. She is at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for monitoring.

The husband was treated for minor injuries and released from hospital.
