CCS facility at Boundary Dam captured more than 49,000 tonnes of CO2 in January

During the month of January, the carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility at the Boundary Dam Power Station captured 49,373 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2), according to the monthly report released by SaskPower on Friday.

During the month of January, the carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility at the Boundary Dam Power Station captured 49,373 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2), according to the monthly report released by SaskPower on Friday.

The average daily capture rate when CCS was online was 2,487 tonnes per day, with a peak one-day capture of 2,532 tonnes.

The CCS facility was online for 65 per cent of the month, having started the year offline due to issues in the powerhouse.

The average for the previous 12 months was 85 per cent of the time spent online.

Since the CCS facility went online in October 2014, there have been 3,859,920 tonnes of CO2 that have been prevented from entering the Earth’s atmosphere.
